Welcome to the Department of Neurology at ASTER MIMS, Calicut, where we are dedicated to advancing the field of neurology
through excellence in patient care, education, and research. Our journey began in 2002 with a single neurologist, and today, we proudly
stand with a team of 7 experienced neurologists. Our department is committed to providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a wide
range of neurological conditions. With an average daily outpatient count of 150 and an inpatient capacity of 35 to 40, we offer a vital lifeline
for patients in need. In 2020, we introduced the DrNB program in Neurology with an intake of 2 residents per year, further strengthening our commitment
to shaping the future of neurology.
Our department is equipped with cutting-edge facilities to deliver the highest standard of neurological care. We boast a Comprehensive Stroke Care Center,
featuring a dedicated neuro cathlab and a stroke ICU equipped for 24x7 intravenous thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, carotid stenting, and cerebral DSA. Our DrNB
trainees receive hands-on training in various neuro interventional procedures and neurosonology, including transcranial Doppler and carotid Doppler. Additionally, we house
a state-of-the-art Clinical Neurophysiology lab with 8 trained neuro technicians, performing around 200 EEGs and 150 nerve conduction studies each month. Other studies, such
as EMG, evoked potentials, and RNS, are conducted regularly. We take pride in our 5-bed Epilepsy monitoring unit and a sleep lab, dedicated to enhancing patient care and education.

Academic Excellence and Facilities
The Department of Neurology is dedicated to fostering academic excellence in our DrNB candidates. We provide regular academic programs, including clinical neurophysiology seminars, epilepsy meetings, journal clubs, general clinical club sessions, neuroradiology meetings, topic seminars, and clinical case discussions. These programs ensure that our residents receive a comprehensive and holistic learning experience. Our commitment to research is evident through our ongoing projects and numerous research publications. Our residents have the opportunity to actively participate in research activities and present their findings at various conferences, further contributing to the field of neurology. With a focus on continuous learning and growth, we aim to shape the future of neurology through excellence in education, patient care, and research.
Student Success Story
Dr. Paul Johny
I am the first DrNB trainee in the Department of Neurology, Aster mims. It was rather a tough decision on whether to opt mims as there were no senior
batches here and was also not sure if there will be any academics. At the end of my course, I know that joining here was one of the best decisions I took
in my life. We have a good case load with bedside teaching and excellent academics with academic programmes almost daily. All the consultants are very much
interested in teaching us and we get good exposure in learning clinical neurology and also good exposure to subspecialities like epilepsy, stroke and movement
disorders. We have a good neurosurgery team and combined with them, we do epilepsy surgery, deep brain stimulation, and vascular interventions which is being done
only in few selected centres across the country. There is a well established dnb program ongoing in almost all the specialities in Aster mims which makes it one of
the best academic centres. I would strongly recommend DrNB Neurology in Aster Mims, Calicut for anyone aspiring for neurology superspecialty.
